LO4: Edited photos

Galactic arts

I edited this photo the way I have because I am into astronomy and liked the idea of having all the planets in one picture. What I did to it was change the light balance with the curve tool on Photoshop, then added the planets one by one. I think it looks good so i decided to keep it just with the planets in it.

Cornerstone of Corruption

I changed this photo to this because I liked the idea of having batman in one of my photos. So I tried to make the building look like it was part of a comic book by changing the noise on it and the light level. I also added in the bat light to make the whole picture make a bit more realistic. If I was to show this photo in a public place I would make sure I had copyrght to allow me to show it.

Steamy Days

I added the smoke effect to the end of the funnel type things on the building because I know this building as the kettles, so I thought that I could try and give them a kettle like feel to them be adding smoke to the end of them. I also changed the lighting to make it look cooler.

Sun Towers

I decided not to change anything on this photo due to the way the photo came out. I personally don't think it needs to be edited at all because it looks nice as it is.

Path to Greatness

I decided not to edit this photo because I like the feel of the photo as a cold damp day, it also looks good so I thought there was no need to edit it.

Zayn's Wall

All I did to this photo was crop it at the sides a bit so I didn't have random cars in the background and a lamppost that I thought didn't fit with the photo that much.

Shattered Dreams

What i did to this picture was give it a glowing crack effect, I decided to do this because I thought it would be cool to have something look like its cracking and has a glowing core and this picture fit well with the effect so I decided to use it on this photo.

Fountain of Truth

All I did to this photo was change the brightness on it, this is so that you can see the train station more and make out more detail than you could before.

Space Invaders

What I did to this photo was change the buildings, so the colours stand out more than they would in a normal photo.

Lumbering Giant

I haven't edited this photo at all, this is because I think it is a good focus, the lighting is good everywhere and I think it is an all round good photo.

LO3: The Settings I Used

Key Terms

Aperture

In photography and digital photography, aperture is the unit of measurement that defines the size of the opening in the lens that can be adjusted to control the amount of light reaching the film or digital sensor. The size of the aperture is measured in F-stop.

Shutter Speed

In photography and digital photography the shutter speed is the unit of measurement which determines how long shutter remains open as the picture is taken. The slower the shutter speed, the longer the exposure time.

ISO

In Digital Photography ISO measures the sensitivity of the image sensor. The same principles apply as in film photography – the lower the number the less sensitive your camera is to light and the finer the grain.

The Settings I Used

This was the screen on the camera that I used to change the settings of, changing the aperture, shutter speed, the ISO setting. I changed and experimented with these for each photo I took and found the best setting for each shot.

I took this photo because I liked the four buildings and the fact I could line them all up for a shot in the same photo. Also the designs on the buildings gave me some ideas about what I could do with it. I didn't particularly use any technical techniques. The ISO was 100 which is a low sensitivity, the camera lens was 24mm and it was taken at f/5 which is medium aperture and 1/125 shutter speed.

I took this photo to show off the creative side of sheffield, although this could be vague for most people as it just looks like a building, whereas the building itself is the arts tower for the university.  In this picture I didn't use any technical techniques again. The ISO was 100, this is because it was a bright day and I needed the sensitivity to be low. The camera lens was 10mm, The aperture was f/8 and the shutter speed was 1/200.

I took this photo as the pattern and design on the cheese grater is very original and out there so I thought it would look good. The ISO was 100 again the lens was 23mm, the aperture was f/11 and the shutter speed was 1/125.

I took this photo because I liked the feel of it, I didn't fill the entire photo with the Crucible as I wanted some of the sky in there to set the scene. I also tried to get some of the reflection on the crucible in it as well. The ISO was 100, the camera lens was 21mm, the aperture was f/8 and the shutter speed was 1/60.

For this shot, I wanted to have the main focus as the hubs, But, I felt that to get the full effect of all three, I would have to stand quite far back to get all three of them in there, so that is why they aren't that big in the photo. The ISO was 100, the lens was 12mm the aperture was f/5.6 and the shutter speed was 1/100.

For the photo of the Park Hill Flats, I wanted to show off as much colour as I could from the building. So I positioned myself to get the most colour as I could. The ISO was 100, the lens was 13mm, the aperture was f/5 and the shutter speed was 1/100.

I took this photo of the peace gardens to get it symmetrical to make it look aesthetically pleasing, also, I have leading lines all the way up to the fountains which is the main part of the photo. The ISO was 11, the lens was 10mm, the aperture was f/3.5 and the shutter speed was 1/125.

I took this photo of this graffiti as I like the saying at the bottom, I wanted all the graffiti but I didn't want a straight on shot as I feel that wouldn't have done the graffiti justice. The ISO was 100 and the lens was 22mm, the aperture was f/5 and the shutter speed was 1/50.

For this picture of the train station, I wanted to get the surroundings in so I positioned myself so you could see everything that was around the train station. The ISO was 100, the lens was 18mm, the aperture was f/6.3 and the shutter speed was 1/100.

For this shot, I wanted to show off one of the sculptures outside the train station, I wanted to show how far it goes back so I shot the photo with the structure starting at one end and progressing through the photo. The ISO was 100 and the lens was 18mm, the aperture was f/5.6 and the shutter speed was 1/100.

LO3: My chosen photos

I chose this photo because I think that it is creative, this is because of the design, it has lots of windows, but they are shaped to look like a cheese-grater. This is how it got its iconic name, 'The Cheese Grater'

I chose this photo because it is a theatre, I think that it is creative because of the things that take place from around sheffield. Such as different productions like Shakespeare and 'The Wiz.'

I took this photo because it is graffiti, I think that graffiti expresses someone's inner feelings and expresses them creatively into the art they do.

I chose this photo because I think it is creative. This is because the way the garden has been laid out to make it seem symmetrical, also the fountain i think is creative because of the way it gets bigger in the middle and shorter on the outside.

I believe that this photo is creative because of the layout of the water fountain. How it looks like steps to step down but instead it is for water.

I think that this is creative because it is a structure that has been designed well and looks nice and creative.

I chose this photo because I think it represents digital. This is because it has a radio station in there which is digital, but they also have live music events in there so it is creative as well.

I chose this because I think that the design of this building is creative because of the colours they use and the simple designs.

I took this photo because i think it is creative, this is because the things that go on in there is art which is a very creative subject.

I chose this photo because the buildings designs are very creative with the effect of different colours.
